Statement from James P. Steyer, Founder and CEO of Common Sense Media on the Midterm Elections
The American People have won the midterms.
American voters sent an unmistakable bipartisan message to their leaders: They do not trust their futures, or their kids’ futures, to Big Tech and the AI companies.
More than half of all voters across this diverse nation said that AI was a major factor in their vote. For years, the tech giants have operated arrogantly and largely unchecked…Washington has completely failed to rein them in or to hold them accountable.
This is not a partisan issue. This is an American issue. Voters across America clearly want powerful guardrails on AI, and they want the most powerful and wealthiest companies in the history of the world held strictly accountable for how their products impact America’s children, families, and schools.
The new Congress, the many newly-elected state leaders, and the leaders of both parties now have an unmistakenly clear mandate to act on behalf of the American public.
Common Sense will prevail, and the American people will hold them accountable.
